What you should know about powerbanks

In News

As of today, there is no shortage of gadgets available in the market to make our lives easier. One of the most popular gadgets is portable powerbank. In a nutshell, a powerbank is an external battery that comes with the protection of a sealed case and it stores electricity. Powerbanks come with USB cables so you can connect it in the form of a power source for battery drained laptops, tablets or cellphones.

You may notice that modern-day Powerbanks have become exceptionally fashionable particularly among young smartphone users. In fact, modern-day smartphones are used pretty much throughout the day and the batteries tend to drain pretty quickly. So, having a powerbank has become an obvious thing if you have a smartphone.

Different Types of Powerbanks
Not all the powerbanks are the same although they are manufactured to fulfill one intention. Powerbanks come in three main types and they are mentioned below.

  • Universal Powerbank
  • This variety is usually available in a large range of sizes and configurations. These configurations are often adjusted to be compatible with your device's requirements and your budget as well.

  • Solar Powerbank
  • This variety has a photovoltaic panel which will trickle-charge its internal battery when it's placed under the sun. Do note that solar charging isn't as fast as the universal power banks. However, this variety becomes incredibly handy when you are performing outdoor activities like camping, hiking, fishing, trekking, etc.

  • Oldstyle Battery Phone Case Powerbank
  • These powerbanks are pretty handy but they are not compatible with the majority of modern-day devices.

    How to charge a Powerbank
Powerbanks come with dedicated input sockets. Those are the sockets you will be using to connect its power cable and plug your device to a wall outlet. In addition to that, you can connect your powerbank to your laptop or PC to charge. Hence, there are available units with a micro or mini USB socket for charging.

It can take a while for this power source to refill. Basically, it depends on its capacity and current level of charge. Larger banks take a longer time. They come with an LED indicator that helps the user know when their powerbank is fully charged.

Powerbanks generally have indicators as well so you know its power level. There are many units that boast efficiency ratings to up to 90%. However, it generally finishes up with just an 80% efficiency rate in general.

    Choose the proper Powerbank
There are many things to consider when it comes to choosing the proper powerbank. One is your usage. When it comes to a portable power source, the most crucial feature you would search for is its capacity. This is often measured in mAH. there's no exact number of how many times your powerbank can charge your device. However, the rule of thumb here is that it should have more mAH rating for more capacity.

If you go for a solar powerbank, that will take some time to be recharged. However, such a device becomes priceless in the absence of regular power outlets (such as when you are camping in the woods for a couple of days).
